This has been one crazy primary so far this year. Continue reading
We’ve now had a few republican primary debates, and I’ve widdled some out of my thoughts. Continue reading
For the past few weeks or so, there has been discussion about having the Constitution being brought back into the public eye. This is such a great thing, as we are at a point in time where the Constitution is largely forgotten. The Constitution is going to be read in the House of Representatives, Michele Bachmann is starting a series of classes on the Constitution with different Constitutional scholars leading those sessions, and there is a move to attach to each piece of legislation why that legislation is Constitutional.
The left is in an uproar, with some saying righties have a fetish for the Constitution.
This pleases me.
The reason they have this absolute insanity about the Constitution is because they do not stand behind it. They want to jump over, go around, or parachute over this great document. Even the eggheads around the web that I’ve seen are staunchly against these things. I’ve seen them argue that reading the Constitution in the House is a waste of taxpayer dollars. I guess voting on a motion to congratulate different sports teams on a great season isn’t a waste of tax dollars, huh? Letting idiots like Colbert make a mockery of an issue like immigration isn’t a waste of tax dollars, huh? Yes, liberals somehow believe that reading a document that their own representatives have sworn to uphold and defend is a waste of time.
If legislators have to explain the authority they have for the laws they want, that would be terrific! Not for the left, however. How would they explain forcing Americans to purchase a product? They can’t. There are several things that would be struck down immediately, given the proper statesmen are in place. This is what makes them all so damned nervous. November really left a mark on them, and they are scared shitless that they showed a bit too much of the red in their blood.
Having classes in regards to the Constitution? Awesome stuff right there! This can only lead to our representatives thinking more about the Constitution. It’d be nice if they do some sort of live feed of it, or have it posted to Youtube or something similar after each session. I would definitely watch and pass along the link to others.
I’m praying that this really does bring the Constitution back into the eyes of the general populace, because it is sorely, sorely needed right now.
Apparently, the GOP is recommending that there is a rule in the next Congress that lawmakers “provide constitutional authority for every bill.” Holy crap, THAT excites me! However, ol’ Allahpundit over at Hot Air is a bit confused by this, and doesn’t “get it“:
Those are really, really nice questions! Too bad good ol’ AP doesn’t “get it,” though.
See, Allahpundit, the beauty of this is that you don’t have to ask those questions. Now, I’m not as politically experienced as most, but I have noticed that there is a lack of talk about the Constitution itself. Sure, you have idjits in Congress claiming that they have the right to do xyz according to the so-and-so clause in the Constitution, but how do they defend that stance? Well, they don’t. It’s always some passing moment on camera, and they don’t get called out on it.
The problem is, facts are stupid things; stupid to try to refudiate. It’s hard to get to the bottom of things when they’re ignored. What do I mean?
Obviously, this is a chance to bring back debate about the Constitution! It’s been entirely too long since that has been done, and a big downfall of that is the breaching of the Law of the Land as it’s supposed to be. This is a chance to shine the light on what has been circumvented, what has been lost in history to most, and to point out the exact times that the Supreme Court itself has acted against this document. Yes, this is a great idear. Couple this with ol’ Bachmann starting the hour-long pre-game sessions of learning/relearning about the Constitution, and you have some statesmen ready to go to town!
Allahpundit, you should be able to see how great this is. If not, then I’m not quite sure why you even pay attention to politics. Maybe you got lost in the sauce due to the fact that no Congress critters talked about the Constitution often enough, if ever. Personally, I’m not looking at this as strategy. I’m looking at this as “holy hell, it’s about time.”
