Not too long ago, the guitar player that I’ve jammed with for years off and on decided to go his own way and jam some different music. Luckily, he had brought another guitar player in a couple of months or so before he departed. Continue reading

Through the magic of Facebook I’ve been finding a lot of my old friends from high school. I found one of my buddies that is, or has been, pursuing a career in singing. The coolest part about this guy is I can’t recall once, not even once, where I saw him angry about something. He was one of those dudes that was damn near everyone’s friend because of his calmness and what-not.
Anyway, it’s not really my style of music, but I thought I’d throw this together to help him get his name out there. Here’s the Facebook page that he just created:

I don’t know much about Jango, but apparently he’s there, too:

… and here’s a video he made that looks to be pretty good quality:

Like I said, it’s not my style of music, but this dude was a class act back in high school. So check him out if you’re into R&B!
Remember the good ol’ days when they used to have “You make the call!” segments during football games? I wish they still had those, but I guess they change the rules too damn much now to keep consistency. Anywart, which one of these NFL themes is the best? YOU make the call!

Also, if anyone knows who did each of these, or if there are longer versions, lemme know!
Where ever I stumbled on this Twitter post from, I can’t remember. I do know that it makes me wonder just what in the hell are the similarities between these two tunes that I’m missing?

Let’s listen back-to-back!
I hear no similarity whatever. None. Nil. Zero. Zilch. Maybe there is a certain string of notes this person is hearing that I’m not? That would be giving said person credit, though. Then again, this person, “through no fault of [their] own, … was born smart.” So it stands to reason that this person is pretty darned elitist by making that statement. I mean, how can they help it though, what with being in “the field of Naval Nuclear Propulsion.” And yeah, it turns out the person is a lib. Just taking a short look at their Twitter page is mind numbing, to say the least. Re-Twitting Keith Olbermann? Seriously? This guy is just seething with hate, anger, spittle and all around dumbassetry. Why do the libs <3 him so?
In closing, this Danicka person is a self-described smart person who loves Keith Olbermann and thinks that the Imperial March and Spoonful of Sugar sound “an awful lot [a]like.”
A note to the wise: whenever you are in a shitty mood, turn to the Internet to find asshats that make you feel better about yourself. This sure did the trick for me today!
Ah yes, one-hit wonders! You don’t know what I’m talking about. I know you’re used to hearing that phrase in terms of those musicians and/or bands that came on the scene, had a popular song, and was never heard about from the public at large again. Well, yeah, that’s one style of one-hit wonder. The one I want to point out today is of this brand: those musicians and/or bands that came on the scene, got popular, had one good song, and stayed in the public eye after-the-fact. Yes, people will say this is subjective, of course, but on my site it is truth!
Here are three one-hit wonders.
Rainy Day Women #12 and 35 – Bob Dylan
When I was in The Corps, I purchased quite a few tapes when I first hit the School of Infantry. I grabbed a walkman w/ headphones, and would listen to all kinds of stuff when on liberty around the barracks. I bought a tape by Bob Dylan, because I had never really listened to him, and decided to give it a shot. I ended up not digging the album, minus this song. I’m pretty sure it’s something that I listened to while in high school, but didn’t know the name of the song itself. I thought it was a misprint when I first read it on the back of the case haha So, even though I wasn’t in a position to be able to smoke and what-not while in the military, I loved the actual fun, open sounding style of the song. Still do. Don’t like any of his other crap.
Come Together – The Beatles
I imagine that I like this song because of the rhythm section. I’m not much of a person for lyrics, honestly, so I haven’t even listened to the words in this tune. I like the overall feel of the song though, with the more upbeat chorus part, and then the drop into the verse kind-of-thingy. The band Badge that I was a part of actually did a cover of Helter Skelter by The Beatles (something else still not uploaded). I think I’ve heard the song once, maybe twice? I couldn’t tell you how it goes because it was something the guitar player wanted to cover, and I didn’t know crap about the tune. The reason I didn’t know crap about it was because, well, I don’t like The Beatles (minus our second guitarist in 13th Apostle)! So yeah, the only good Beatles tune ever was Come Together.
Paint It Black – The Rolling Stones
This song has a special significance for me. When I was a kid, my dad and I watched this television series called Tour of Duty, which was an awesome show about the Vietnam War. During the first and/or second season, they used Paint It Black for the intro. This song always takes me back to that. Besides that, the music itself is awesome. I’m not really sure what he’s talking about, but whatever! All the other Rolling Stones songs that came out prior to and before this one? Garbage.
And there you have it, three of my favorite one-hit wonders!
