With Jeremiah being interested in some of the same things I was as a child, I get to check out the toys that are hot right now. I always make it a point to hit the toy aisle with him when we go to Walmart or some such. I get to see how things have changed, and all that good stuff. One of the big things I noticed was name changing of certain characters in certain toy lines.
For instance, the character known as “Snow Job” in G.I. Joes had been changed to… I believe it was “Whiteout”. I had a good chuckle about that! I saw that they had changed it back to Snow Job again, too, so obviously these folks are torn with how to be PC!
When it came to Star Wars, I saw that they had switched names for two of the bounty hunters from The Empire Strikes Back. Zuckuss was a black droid kind of guy, and 4-Lom was a dude that looked like a heavy-set Tusken Raider with a better mask. I noticed they had switched names, and I was doubting myself for awhile. Thinking, “hey, maybe I was just wrong and mixed up,” bad memory, etc. As it turns out, I wasn’t wrong!
There is a new line of Star Wars out right now, and on the back they show the original cards of the original releases. Sure enough, the one now listed as 4-Lom was originally called Zuckuss. I wondered why the hell they had switched names, so I did a quick search. The guy in this vid explains it at just around the 1 minute mark:
Well, there’s your answer! Be that as it may, I ordered out for 4-Lom through proof of purchase tags… screw that. The original names are correct in my book.
And I’m always right ; )
Now, if I can just find that SNES box of Earthbound Zero that I played through while in Okinawa (as in, it was called Earthbound Zero, and not just Earthbound), I can rest easy.
